Short-Term Running Goals:

keep running, stay fit and healthy, while having fun. Would like to get my mileage up to 25 miles a week and plan some short races when I get confident with my speed.

When I got off work I decided to go to the race in monroe. I rode over with a friend, and by the time we both got changed and ready it didn't leave time to warm up. But the race was getting started late that left us standing around waiting and getting verrrrryyyy sleepy not moving. I had decided that this was indeed not a race for me, due to 2 nights of night shifts, and still having sore calves from Martins Cove. Just motivation to get a run in in the a.m. so I didn't have to do it later and think about it all day. When we finally got started I was determined to start slow and steady or I new that I would be out of steam for the last mile or so since I have never done more than 3.5 after no sleep. I don't know what my mile times were, but my pace felt good, not to fast, but not getting left clear behind. I was surprised that it didn't feel more difficult than it did and things were going good. The last two miles a very annoying guy played leap frog with me the rest of the race. He would stop and walk and then run passed me, then stop and walk till I got about 20 feet ahead and do it again. When we turned the corner to the finish line he ran ahead and came in just before me (AGGHH!) I did have a little reserve to speed up but not quite enough! All in all it was probabley my favorite race of the summer. I liked the course a few small hills but mostly pretty even and a good route. I'm glad I got out in the morning and now I can relax for the rest of the day! (I asked at the end if it was exactly 5 miles and they said it was only 4.8)

Good job in the race after working all night. Next time you'll leap frog that guy out of the way for good. I use to run that race in high school. The good old milk run.

Any race is great if you place, congrads on 3rd. What is it about guys wanting to beat the girls? Next time you will be ready for the guy at the end. If you want to have fun try this some time, I did this last saturday after I finished the race waiting for my wife. Go back on the course about 100 ro 200 yrds from the finish. If you see a guy just ahead of a women, yell, you are not going to let that guy beat you are you, or if the women is ahead, yell the same thing at the guy. It was really fun watching the reaction and the competitive nature in both. I had several people in the crowd joining in also. Maybe I have an odd sense of humor.

If the course length was accurate, this is the best performance of the year for you so far. To verify the course length, if you remember how it went, or if you have the course map handy, you can use the Course Tool to plot it out.

Good job Michelle! That is smokin! I just saw that you ran it. How was the trek? We missed you at the bday party, it was alright. We just ate and visited with everybody. I guess we'll catch you at the 100th! haha

Great Job on the run Michelle- 3rd place- doesn't that feel great? When my "night shift working RN hubby" complains about being tired I remind him about you & your awesome runs after work. Leaves him speechless!
